Bad Girls is a fresh, funny and original British musical, based on characters from the award winning and hugely popular television drama. Featuring original core characters from the original TV series, Bad Girls: The Musical is set in the fictional HMP Larkhall, and is the story of new idealistic Wing Governor Helen Stewart and her battles with Officer Jim Fenner and his sidekick Sylvia Hollamby. It also follows the love story that develops between Helen and charismatic inmate Nikki Wade. Other featured characters include Shell Dockley and her runner Denny Blood, old-timer Noreen Biggs, The Two Julies and the ultimate Top Dog, Yvonne Atkins. A tragic death on the wing – in which Jim Fenner is implicated – leads to an angry protest from the women and forces Helen and Nikki to their opposite sides of the bars. But when it’s clear that Helen stands to lose her job over Jim Fenner’s misdeeds, the race is on for the women to nail Jim once and for all. Never shying from the darker side of prison life, Bad Girls celebrates the warmth, compassion and defiant sense of humour that can sometimes triumph even behind bars. The West End production features several veterans of the TV show. Helen Fraser reprises her infamous role as Sylvia “Bodybag” Hollamby, and Maria Charles made a welcome return as Noreen Biggs. Nicole Faraday, better known in her role as Snowball Merriman, is the “evil incarnate” Shell Dockley and Laura Rogers, seen as Sheena Williams, plays the troubled Wing Governor Helen Stewart. |
