When On is Off

Posted on February 6th, 2009 by Ambassador: David C Jones

My comedy company The Bobbers has always used risque names for our various productions. Although we pride ourselves on clever and clean comedy are various shows have been titled Tops and Bottoms, Spreading Christmas Queer, The Quickies and our radio show Aural Only.

But our upcoming Valentine’s show has proved to much for some people.

Now the title is only really naughty if you say it out loud. I thought it juvenile and silly but then I noticed some of our lesbian performers were referring to the show as Big Red Heart.

So I contacted the local press and said if they were concerned about the title they too can re-brand the show and drop the “On”. Well, only one newspaper did.

Yep – the gay paper! Isn’t that weird? Now they are big supporters of ours and sponsors of the show and we love them for it. But it makes you wonder why it was that paper that changed the title. Theories?

Lots of big events ending this week (or soon) in Vancouver.

Had a great time at Gay Ski Week in Whistler – our show went of quite well, people bought us drinks after and I got to make out with nice man in the bar.

Skydive is a visual masterpiece thanks to visionary directors Roy Surette and Steve Drover, check out the clips on the Arts Club web-site. The on-stage story is as fun and interesting as the off stage story as this show was created by two friends Bob Fraser and James Sanders – one of who was paralyzed in a accident. In this show they both are able to fly thanks to some amazing stage work. Really – check out the clips and hope that the tour brings it to you town.

Tight pants alert! The very sexy and talented Jesse Donaldson is singing and dancing in The Last Five Years. Produced by the quirky beautiful and talented Naomi Danyeswood it is a time twisted story of a hetero love story gone wrong.

The Constant Wife at the Stanley Theater is classy and sassy and you want to live on that 1930′s set.

I wasn’t crazy about There Came a Gypsy Riding at the Jericho Arts Centre it was fine but the pacing was slow. Loved all the bands at the Lonely Hearts Club fundraiser. Their covers of Beatles tunes were awesome and inspired and sexy and now I can’t decide who is hotter bass players or drummers.

Finally – a friend sent me this clip and I wanted to share it with you.

Star Trek TNG fans enjoy.

Hope you are well.
