Felt The Love at LG Fashion Week…

Posted on March 17th, 2009 by Ambassador: Max MacDonald

Among the events that any fashion journalist or writer waits for and dreads is any fashion week. Crammed with people who are truly “not on the list” or only the list because of someone they have slept with, it can get a tad crowded. However, LG Fashion Week (http://www.lgfashionweek.ca) last night was worth the crowds somewhat.

Toronto’s seven day, aptly titled, “Show Love” was a love-in for an American icon. That being Barbie. With all the Canadian fashion icons out there, why Barbie? Here’s why. MONEY! LG Fashion Week, The Bay, Mattel and Canadian designer David Dixon were all wrapped up in what could be called a Barbie orgy. The usual fashion environment where once again Fashion Television’s, Jeanne Beker (http://www.fashiontelevision.com) was poised (in not too bad a dress I might add) with microphone in hand ready into interview.

As we were aptly assembled and crossing our fingers and praying to Coco Chanel Robin would hold it together, she did. Robin Kay’s speech was succinct, smart and made fun of her widely publicized “Robingate” incident last season. However, a collection based on an American doll is another story. For my commentary on David Dixon’s collection based on Barbie will be coming soon, in a future edition of FAB Magazine (http://www.fabmagazine.com).
