Harry Potter Star Swings Gay?

Posted on July 29th, 2009 by lily

The UK’s Mirror seems to imply a male star of the Harry Potter franchise prefers men to women, while the wand wizard himself, Daniel Radcliffe says he is interested in older woman as well as birds his own age.

The Mirror ‘s popular gossip column 3am ran this thinly veiled item:

Which magical actor is a hit with the ladies but keeps joking that they’re wasting his time as his wand swings the other way?

Perhaps the adorable, ginger-haired Rupert Grint is the target of the Mirror’s rumor?

Sir Ian McKellen, who is a staunch LGBT crusader and out gay man is also in the series. He fulfilled the role of  Hogwart’s head master, Dumbeldore in the Harry Potter films after the original actor, Richard Harris passed away.

Meanwhile, at the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in London, star Radcliffe told People magazine, “I’ve been out with a couple of women who have been older than me. I think it’s the maturity thing more than anything else, but that was when I was younger—girls my age are now mature, so it’s great. I’ve widened the field!”

His co-star, Jessie Cave, shared Potter’s star has an unknown talent that lends itself to his pursuit of romance. Cave told the press, “Daniel loves poetry, it’s definitely a passion of his and I think he would suit that sort of poet lifestyle, he’s very dramatic and witty and very, very clever.”

No, Sir Ian McKellen did not play Dumbledore or anything else in the Harry Potter series. He did play Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and is hoped to continue that role in the Hobbit films.

Dumbledore was played by Michael Gambon (after Richard Harris) in the Harry Potter films, and by Lewis Macleod in video games.
