Neil Patrick Harris Looks Ahead to Parenting
Neil Patrick Harris, is happy with his longtime boyfriend, David Burtka, and is confident about the pair’s parenting potential. “We’d make very good parents,” Harris said.
Burkta is already a father to twins from a previous relationship, and Harris counts himself as “the fun guy who takes them to Disneyland” and a stepfather figure to the two.
Harris says he and Burkta are a match made in heaven who “yin and yang very well.” “I’m just bowled over by him,” N.P.H. gushed in New York magazine. “He’s made my life exponentially more livable.”
The out actor and former teen idol says he never felt his coming-out in 2006 would hinder his career, in which he often portrays womanizers. “No one was ever old-school Hollywood, with a cigar in their mouth, saying ‘You can’t do this, see! It will ruin your career, kid,’” Harris quipped. In all seriousness, Harris reflected, “So long as you’re representing yourself well, you’re making good choices for good reasons, all of the circumstantial things will vanish.”
Harris elaborated in USA Today, saying, “I’ve been grateful and relieved we live in a world where I don’t have to feel innate shame for who I choose to fall in love with. That’s allowed me to stand tall, and when you’re standing tall, I think you perform better.”
