Hi Everyone! I hope you’re enjoying the behind the scenes videos. We’ve got one more for you this week as we take a look at what it was like to film ‘The Afterlife.’

This shoot was completely different from anything I’ve ever been involved in. Usually when you plan a show you plan for every second of the shoot – almost nothing can surprise you because you’re prepared for anything – BUT in this case, we had NO CLUE what was going to happen. Suzane and her amazing ability ran the set – and we just had to be prepared to jump in with the cameras and cover it. It really made sitting in the control room exciting – because we never knew what would happen next and we couldn’t have imagined some of the deep connections Suzane would make with our studio audience!

This fall marks the launch of some great new programming here at OUTtv. For me, the most exciting of which are our very own original series. Have you ever wondered how these shows are produced?

Well, we’ve got a little sneak peak for you behind the scenes of one of this falls most popular new shows, Let’s Talk Sex with Dr. Pega Ren. Check out the home page this week as we feature never before seen footage from this summer’s studio shoot. 

It’s a lot of work but it can also be a lot of fun – check out the videos, you’ll see what I mean! 

Cover Guy is gearing up to launch this Sunday, October 5th, at 8:30 pm (EST) with a fabulous launch party hosted by hometown boy and Cover Guy host Mathieu Chantelous. The party will be held at Club Unite in Montreal on Saturday, October 4th, where episodes one and two will be screened. The party starts at 8:30 pm (EST), but the doors open to the public at 10 pm (EST). The Cover Guy models will be there, dressed appropriately in 3G underwear. Club Unite is located at 1400 Montcalm, Montreal, Quebec. 

Check out the ‘Cover Guy: Montreal,’ web page here at www.outtv.ca. This season of Cover Guy promises to be the best one yet! After three successful years in Toronto, host Mathieu Chantlois went to Montreal to find the sexiest French men. Montreal is known to have just that – some of the hottest men in the world. But only one of them will be named Canada’s ultimate male model. You have to tune in to find out who! Check out our schedule for show times and enjoy! 

It’s a very interesting time here at OUTtv as our Summer production rush comes to a close and we move most of our projects into post production. For me, the most exciting of which is ‘Queer Prom.’ 

‘Queer Prom,’ is a small 3 part documentary series following the planning of a local Vancouver youth event. Every year The Centre and GAB Youth Services put on a queer prom for youth ages 13 to 25. This is the biggest of many community events the organization puts on for queer youth. It gives those graduating, or still in school the opportunity to experience one of life’s milestones as they’ve always imagined it. It is unfortunate that homophobia and intolerance still exist within our schools despite the best efforts of district wide GSA’s (Gay Straight Alliances). GAB Youth Services provides a safe place for queer youth to be themselves. This series documents the stories of the youth planning committee as they struggle through the ups and downs of pulling off the years biggest event. 

As we move into post I’m excited to be putting the pieces of this community story together!

Beginning in Vancouver with Robin Perelle and Xtra! West, we are teaming up to bring you the latest coverage of everything queer happening in your community. Xtra! undoubtedly knows everything and everyone important and influential within the GLBT community and here at OUTtv we have the production capabilities to shoot a deliver high quality video’s right to your web browser. Together we are looking at the beginnings of quite a beautiful friendship.

As I’m sure you can imagine, one of the most exciting parts of my job is hearing about new show ideas and pushing them forward into development. The thing is, sometimes we hear an idea or a pitch from an eager creator, but we’re not convinced it will play well on the network. So, what we do in a situation like this, is shoot a small test pilot to see what the show would look like as a full series. This week we did just that with an improv comedy series entitled ‘The Gay Mafia.’

David C. Jones is an amazing jack-of-all-trades we work with a lot here in Vancouver. When he came to us with ‘The Gay Mafia,’ we were excited to do a show with him, but were concerned about the production logistics. The idea came from a theatrical performance David had put together last year, featuring, for lack of a better term, gay improv. The show concept is similar to ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’ but all of the improv actors portray different gay stereotypes as they attempt to earn a place in the Gay Mafia.

The shoot was great – the improv was hilarious - and all and all i think this would be a great addition to our programming here at OUTtv – but I want to know what you guys think! Would you tune into a hilarious improv show featuring Vancouver’s most talented GLBT comedians?

My name is Nicky Forsman and I work in programming development for OUTtv. I thought I would take this blogging opportunity to introduce myself and to tell you about some new and exciting original programs we are currently developing at our Vancouver office. Look for my own or Philip’s weekly “Behind the Scenes” posts for fun information about what goes on in the development and production stages of these great new shows.

Right off the bat I thought I would tell you about a new show coming your way this fall. It’s called “Let’s Talk Sex with Dr. Pega Ren”. Dr. Pega Ren is a renowned sexpert who writes for Xtra West and a number of online publications. She also has her own website at www.smartsextalk.com. We have teamed up Dr. Ren with her co-host Jonny Staub (from The Beat 94.5 in Vancouver) to create a sex talk show aimed squarely at our GLBT audience. The show discusses sexual and relationship issues that directly affect the community, bringing advice and frank information directly to your TV.

As you can image, a lot of preparation and research goes into producing all kinds of television shows. This phase, pre-production, as it’s called, can sometimes lack excitement but this show was the exception to the rule. It all began when we started to receive a surplus of sex toys in the mail everyday…
