That Johnny Depp does things his own way, luckily.

Everybody loves seeing him star as Captain Jack Sparrow in the obscenely successful Disney Pirates of the Caribbean films but he recently revealed studio exec’s at the ‘house of mouse’ were more that a little wary of Depp’s flamboyant performance.

“They couldn’t stand him,” Depp told Vanity Fair of his Capt. Jack. “They just couldn’t stand him. I think it was Michael Eisner, the head of Disney at the time, who was quoted as saying, ‘He’s ruining the movie.’ Upper-echelon Disney-ites, going, What’s wrong with him? Is he, you know, like some kind of weird simpleton? Is he drunk? By the way, is he gay?… And so I actually told this woman who was the Disney-ite… ‘But didn’t you know that all my characters are gay?’ Which really made her nervous.”

So, add this to the list of Chris Colfer’s growing talents: along with his great singing, acting, and secret ninja skills, the out Glee star is also a successful screenwriter.

Colfer has sold a screenplay entitled Struck by Lightning. He will also star in the film. The young out actor partners with Youth in Revolt producer David Permut for the story described as a coming-of-age, John Hughes style comedy.

If all goes according to plan, Chris will film Struck in summer 2011 over Glee’s hiatus.

Australian music’s favorite gay icon, Kylie Minogue, has long paid service to her faithful fan base of gay men. But the lovely singer only recently went on record as having something of a roving eye for beauties of the same sex.

Minogue shared, “I have been attracted to some women. I am a sexual exhibitionist, and part of me is a natural flirt.

“But although I am attracted to women, I have never done anything with them.”

Singers Rihanna, Ke$ha, and Fergie also recently spoke to the press about their attraction to women.

Do you think bisexuality is being exploited as a pop-culture trend, or are people speaking more openly about their true sexuality?

Actor and long-standing LGBT rights advocate Sir Ian McKellen is concerned that the culture of professional sports is keeping gay athletes from coming out. McKellen believes many sports stars stay in the closet for fear of rejection and backlash from fans, and he believes the sports world must take unified action to change the negative attitudes.

The Lord of The Rings star told BBC Radio in an interview, “When it comes to the business of simply being honest about who they are, some of them [sports stars] become little shrinking violets because they’re afraid, probably, of being booed from the terraces, and that must be a horrible experience, and shame on people who do it.

“But it ain’t going to stop someone being a fantastic footballer,” he continued, “because they’re honest about their private lives, is it? I don’t believe so, and the world is changing, and sport, I’m afraid, is very slow to catch up.”

Do you think pro sports is any more or less negative about homosexuality than other celebrity arenas like film or music?

Gay-favorite country icon Dolly Parton has voiced her support of gay marriage and LGBT equality in the past. The singer and actress recently reaffirmed her stance as an LGBT advocate, telling The Times of London, “That’s not politics to me. That’s human rights.”

Parton continued, explaining, “I’m not a poster child for gay rights by any means. But I have so many gay and lesbian friends and they’re just so pure and so true.”

The Nine to Five star explained her hesitance to be overtly political, noting, “Look at the poor Dixie Chicks. They were just trying to make a personal statement and it ruined them. So I stay away from that.”

Last year the famously proportioned performer told Joy Behar of her gay-icon status, “I think it’s because [gay fans] know I’m different too and it took me a long time be accepted. And I think that they just kind of relate to that.”

Damages star Glenn Close revisited her favorite film roles from her impressive career for an article on The Daily Beast. Close recalled in detail the “revelatory” moment she experienced while playing Washington State National Guard colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer in Serving in Silence. Close portrayed the famous former officer who sues after being discharged for revealing her homosexuality.

“That’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever done,” Close said of the 1995 TV movie, “because Margarethe Cammermeyer was around during the shoot. She was an exacting soldier, very strict about uniform, and how you salute — everything.

“It was tragic that she was the one kicked out of the Army eventually, because she was homosexual,” Close said of the U.S. army’s much-contested ban on gays.

“But the thing that stayed with me — I’ve known many, many gay people, and they’re some of my best friends. We all went through the AIDS scourge, I’ve lost many friends, and I’ve always been highly sympathetic to the plights of gays, what they’ve had to deal with. But the scene at the end, although I was very open-minded and supportive, when Judy Davis and I had to kiss at the end, I really felt that for 30 seconds, maybe a minute, what it really, really felt like to be attracted to my own gender,” the seasoned star concluded.

“It was kind of revelatory for me, a real frisson moment,” Close revealed. “I’ll never forget it.”

If you’re a Potter-phile, you may have already heard about it, but you don’t even have to be a huge fan of Daniel Radcliffe to support the photo book One Day in the Life of Daniel Radcliffe from photographer Tim Hailand. With a portion of profits from the book going to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, you shouldn’t need much convincing to purchase it. At the very least, it makes a philanthropic gift for the die-hard Harry Potter fan in your life.

The series of photographs exploring the real life of Radcliffe were taken on January 13, 2009, while he was appearing on the Broadway stage in Equus. The 50 photos capture the actor candidly rehearsing, relaxing, eating, and, in a towel-clad shot, just stepping out of the shower.

The accompanying footnotes and captions were written by Radcliffe to give the ultimate personal perspective on each captured moment.

SW: With the first two shows out of the way, do you guys feel a little more confident to play your new material?

Tegan: “Definitely. I’m always nervous for New York and L.A. It’s a big deal. There are a lot of record company people out. Sara and I have spent 99% of our career not worrying about press, journalists, and record companies, but when you play in New York and L.A. you can just abandon all of that—or you have to—because it is super important. I want the label to care. I want them to be behind the record, so I want them to be impressed by the live show. We have such an amazing, wonderful, intensely loving and devoted audience and there are lots of people in the media who are part of that audience.

There’s definitely a lot of ground we want to cover with this record. Sara and I are prepared and fully ready to crack even more of the mainstream, because we know there are more people who would really connect intensely with our band if they just knew about it. So that means kind of sucking it up and doing a lot more press, radio, and handshaking, which is fine. We’re outspoken and we’re feminists and we’re strong role models for women and for queer culture, and I think it’s time for the mainstream to have a little more of that.”

If you haven’t caught The Showgirl Must Go On, Bette Midler’s Las Vegas review at Caesars Palace, time is running out. The legendary songstress announced she will end her reigning run on January 31.

In a statement, Midler recalled, “What a fabulous two years this has been” since her show debuted in February 2008. “These legs have had such a great run in the desert,” she continued, “it may be time to haul them to places with more humidity and fewer slot machines.”

Midler plans to return to the studio following the show’s end to begin work on a new album.

The actress known for taking on tough chick roles on Lost and Fast & Furious, Michelle Rodriguez, has been surrounded by rumors of bisexuality or lesbianism throughout her career. Kristanna Loken—the smoldering star of Terminator 3 and former Shane flame from The L Word—seemed OK with telling The Advocate that she was involved with her BloodRayne costar Rodriguez in the fall of 2006.

Rodriguez now says her complicated love life is off limits and mislabeling her is a sign of lazy reporting. Showbiz Spy reported the she said, “If I wanted to tell people what I do with my vagina, I’d have made a sex video a long time ago. Largely, people don’t know the whole story about anything. But still they need to put a name on it so they can label it and put it on the side and not dedicate any time to figuring it out. It’s laziness.”After sticking to her ambiguous amorous preference, she did mention an affinity for a well-known lusted-after icon and out bisexual, actress Angelina Jolie. “I like women like Angelina Jolie because of her ability to harness masculine and feminine energy into one,” Rodriguez said. “There are certain people who are so sexual that it doesn’t matter how old they get, they’re still sexual. Angie, at 50, will still be sexual.”

According to Internet rumors, the latest bump in the road for fictional SATC lovers Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) is an adulterous affair that rocks their marriage bed in the sequel to the big hit film.

In a twist that’s exciting many fans of the beloved HBO series and its subsequent motion picture adaptation, GossipCop.com reported Carrie has “an indiscretion” with ex Aidan (John Corbett) in the 2010 movie. The site claims to have obtained a script that reveals the affair and the big role Aidan, who Carrie cheated on with a married Big and ultimately broke off her engagement to during the show’s run between 1998 and 2004.

Corbett admitted he’d “relish” a chance to participate in the big-screen versions after the first film’s release, but at the time, writer-director Michael Patrick King said he couldn’t take a thoroughbred character like Aidan out of the stables with out a juicy place for him in the plot. Has the sequel created the perfect chance?

Corbett was seen in Morocco around the same time SATC2 was there filming on location. Parker has refused to “confirm nor deny” whether Corbett will be returning to the franchise for the second film. She told MTV, “It might have just been coincidental that he was traveling.” Fans will just have to wait and see.

Carrie and Big may be perfect for each other, but which one was perfect for you: bad boy Big or sensitive, loving Aidan?

Before there was Lady Gaga (but after Madonna), there was only one platinum blond pop starlet clad in black leather: Christina Aguilera. The sultry songstress took some time off to marry, have a son and last released the 2008 collection Keeps Getting Better: A Decade of Hits.

In the forthcoming issue of Marie Claire, Aguilera shares the newfound freedom she’s enjoying in the studio, hard at work on her anticipated fourth album, Bionic. The album “is about the future,” according to the singer, and she says her son Max inspired her new sound by “motivating me to want to play and have fun.”

The ”four octave range” soprano is often credited as the most talented vocalist of her pop contemporaries with her to-the-rafters big voice and penchant for blue-eyed soul. Aguilera noted Bionic would be a departure in that sense, explaining her vocals were softer, something “that maybe I’ve been afraid to do in the past, to allow myself to go to a place of ‘ess singing… I’m more vulnerable and more strong at the same time.”

Last fall, producer and collaborator Tricky Stewart talked about the album, calling it “one of her best bodies of work.”

“I know that there’s a lot of other cool features, like I know that she has Santigold and Flo Rida on there,” Tricky told Rap-Up.com. “She’s mixing it up again. She’s singing R&B again, she’s doing pop. She’s doing it all, but she’s found a way to make it all meet in the middle because she’s so many different things.”

Though the final track list for her March LP has yet to be released, Aguilera mentioned a couple of other artists she collaborated with in the studio, including trailblazing female artists. “I got a chance to sort of write with Santigold, M.I.A., Ladytron — artists that I really love.” MTV.com reports, “other collaborators include Dr. Luke, Bravery frontman Sam Endicott (who worked with Shakira on “She Wolf”), Switch and Goldfrapp.”

After being shockingly iced in Dexter’s season 4 finale, Julie Benz is taking a role very different from doting mom and wife, Rita. Benz is joining the bevy of beauties over on Wisteria Lane for a three-episode arc on Desperate Housewives.

Reportedly Benz will play an exotic dancer who is encouraged to leave the lewd industry under the guidance of her new neighbor Susan (Teri Hatcher).

While it’s not hard to think of the tiny dynamo Benz bringing a complex dark side to a stripper character, the writing probably won’t be as juicy and surprising as her Dexter days.

Kristen Bell is enjoying the lovely, lady-powered environment on the set of the forthcoming musical, Burlesque. Bell, who plays a “small-town girl ventures to Los Angeles and finds her place in a neo-burlesque club run by a former dancer,” according to IMDB, is developing a lot of affection for her female costars as well.

Namely the powerhouse singer Christina Aguilera, and gay icon Cher, who portrays the aforementioned Burlesque club runner.

“I have never felt so much good female energy around me,” Bell told the New York Post . “I find that I can’t take my eyes off them. I’m 99 percent sure I will leave this movie a lesbian.”

The musical, visual romp hits theaters this Fall. The impressive cast includes, Bell, Aguilera, Cher, Grey’s Anatomy hottie Eric Dane, Twilight hunk and soap alum Cam Gigandet, Peter Gallagher, Alan Cumming, and Dancing With the Stars’ Julianne Hough.

Long since suspected to be a member of the ladies-who-love-ladies community, the hard-as-nails trainer on weight loss reality show The Biggest Loser, Jillian Michaels had never publicly commented on her sexual orientation.

Until now. In a recent interview with Ladies’ Home Journal, the fiercely fit Michaels said she believes “in healthy love,” regardless of the gender of her partner. “If I fall in love with a woman, that’s awesome. If I fall in love with a man, that’s awesome. As long as you fall in love…”

This will be good news for the many lesbians who fell for Michaels even harder after a gorgeous pictorial in Vanity Fair showed the cut beauty looking quite comfortable—and striking— straddling a Harley.

“It’s like organic food,” the fitness guru reasoned. “I only eat healthy food, and I only want healthy love!”

The handsome and hilarious Bradley Cooper has been thrust into the “next big leading man” role after the megasuccess of 2009’s The Hangover cemented his celebrity status.

Cooper has two huge movies slated to hit theaters in 2010, with summer’s action and ab-heavy A-Team remake in the summer and this spring’s rom-com ensemble tour de force, Valentine’s Day, in which Cooper is the object of the affection of a closeted sports star played by Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy’s McSteamy).

The in-demand actor says his favorite press rumor about himself was that he was romantically involved with a fellow actor he attended an event with. No, not Renée Zellweger, Cooper’s girlfriend, whom he “really likes very much.” The best gossip implied Cooper was instead involved in a gay love affair with friend Victor Garber.

Said Cooper: “People thought we were dating. It was all over the Internet. It was the first time I read a rumor like that about me, and I just thought it was fantastic.”

This season’s family film Everybody’s Fine boasts a cast of Hollywood heavyweights. Robert De Niro plays an out-of-touch dad determined to get to know his adult children for real. Playing his terrific-looking kids are Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell, and Drew Barrymore.

As fans of sappy, feel-good fare, we meant to catch this big-screen flick over the holidays, perhaps with Mom.

Imagine our delight to learn the greatest draw in this dynamite cast is our favorite L Word lady ever, Katherine Moennig! She who so flawlessly embodied Shane for six seasons plays a lesbian again, this time with baby, as Barrymore’s character Rosie’s live-in love, Jilly.

The plot of the movie rests on all the children withholding secrets about themselves from dad De Niro to avoid disappointing him. So maybe you can guess what Rosie and Jilly are trying to hide?

The good news is the film’s about loving and accepting your children, so there’s a happy ending, and it might serve as a shot of celluloid courage for people considering coming out to their own families.

Mischa Barton, the young actress who was once on top as the star of The O.C., is now making headlines for public mishaps and mystery medical drama.

Ever since she left the show that made her a star, Barton has been in the news for increasingly negative behavior. Though she claimed to have completed a rehabilitation program after her 2007 D.U.I., rumors of drinking and drug abuse continued to plague the actress, culminating in her hospitalization for what is being officially referred to as only a “medical issue.”

Barton was allegedly placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold since July 16, when police were called to the 23-year-old’s home after she reportedly suffered some sort of meltdown. The NY Post reports authorities took Barton to “Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was hospitalized under Section 5150 of the California Welfare & Institutions Code, which allows authorities to hold a person for up to 72 hours if they present a danger to themselves or to others.”

While a spokesperson for Barton admits she did receive help for a “medical issue,” he says rumors of drug abuse and suicidal behavior are “completely preposterous… Police were involved due to Ms. Barton’s celebrity status to safely transfer her to medical treatment as per doctor’s orders.” The rep is reporting Barton is steady now and currently just “resting.”

Conversely, Page Six is reporting the actress is “in very bad shape. She’s running out of money and can’t find love, so now she is looking for a good time to escape her misery. She is on a downward spiral. She is a mess. She is a suicidal, uninsurable mess.”

The mysterious hospitalization did preclude Barton from attending the premiere for her latest film, Homecoming, prompting the producers to flounder in her absence. Ultimately, producer Austin Stark said, “She was really professional and worked hard. It’s a shame she can’t come out and promote the movie. She did a great job.” The producers also revealed Barton’s mother was on set daily as an executive producer to manage her allegedly messy daughter, and “made sure that Mischa was happy and that things were working out for her.”

Production on Barton’s next slated project, a television series called Beautiful People, centered on her as a failed fashion model, has been delayed. Publicly, the studio is attributing the setback to set troubles, not Barton’s hospitalization.

Adrian Grenier takes some heat for stuffing his bulge and likes to sleep over at pal Kevin Connolly’s bachelor pad.

Three of the stars of HBO hit Hollywood series Entourage, Grenier, Connolly and Jerry Farrara, appeared dressed as the Bee Gee’s in a People magazine photo shoot. The item, included in the “Hottest Bachelor’s” issues sparked a slew of sock-stuffing accusations.

Fellow Entourage star Kevin Dillon, who was absent from the shoot, says the noticeable bulge gave him pause: “I was like ‘What, do you have a sock in there?’… And he actually DID – I had no idea! I said it jokingly.”

Connolly let the sock out of the bag (as it were) when he appeared on The Tonight Show to discuss the sock-gate incident with host Conan O’Brien. The show put up the photo in question and Connolly let the audience know, it wasn’t pure Mr. Grenier making a showing in those disco white pants.

Connolly relayed, “Adrian put a sock [in his pants] … When he was doing it, I said ‘What are you doing?’ and he said ‘It’s what they did in the ’70s.” I didn’t know that. And the photographer’s like ‘Adrian, we’ve got to lose one of the socks.’ And all of sudden when the photo came out I’m getting calls from girlfriends of mine, like ‘So, Adrian…’ And I didn’t want to throw him under the bus with the individual girls. I figured I’d wait until I got here on The Tonight Show.”

A bewildered O’Brien wondered aloud, “How many socks are in there?”

Grenier laughed off the mock scandal, joking Connolly and O’Brien should spend a little less time scrutinizing his anatomy on the air.

“I don’t know what kind of show they’re doing – It’s not a medical show,” Grenier pointed out. “The Tonight Show is not a medical show, and Conan should learn that.”

Connolly recently explained to ABC News he, Grenier, and Jeremy Piven are very close and they “have the most in common because we’re single guys out and about… we’ve had a couple of good parties.”

Grenier cheerfully added, “We had a slumber party at Connolly’s new house.”

Connolly quickly corrected his co-star: “We had a party and he stayed over. He wanted to stay for a second night, I just said to him, one night’s enough.”

Sound’s like E’s house is where it’s at.
