“On May 5, with the handholding of uber-gay publicist Howard Bragman, a celebrity is expected to follow Ricky Martin out of the closet. This person is already booked for a People exclusive, says Zap2It‘s report, with a string of talk show appearances afterward, including The View (and then probably Joy Behar’s show, ’cause that seems fitting). Which begs the question: Who’s it gonna be?

“That there’s such a concrete timeline and strategy in place is evidence this is a well-planned, long-thought-about unveiling. But while the mind swirls about who the soon-to-be out star is going to be — Queen Latifah? Ryan Seacrest? Michelle Rodriguez? — it must be noted that this celeb isn’t just coming out, he or she is going on a Coming Out Tour.”

Count Jane Lynch as one of the celebrities who came out a little later in life. The successful comic actress who currently stars as sharp-tongued Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester on Glee says she didn’t come out to her parents until her early 30s.

Now 49 and happily engaged to Laura Embry, Lynch explains to London’s Sunday Mirror that she put it off because “I didn’t want to be gay. … I wanted an easy life.”

Lynch eventually discovered her fears were unfounded. “And you know what?” she adds. “I am gay and I still have an easy life.”

Another ingredient in enjoying her easy life is the therapeutic benefits of playing the outspoken Sylvester. “When I put on that tracksuit I have a license to say anything I want,” Lynch notes of the quoteworthy Sue. “I think it’s probably very good therapy, because I’m a much nicer person at home as I get it all out at work.”

Lynch adds that it isn’t always a massive stretch for her to see things the way “Sue C’s it.” “That kind of contemptuous behavior is just below the surface for me, so it’s nice I don’t have to dig deep for it.”

McKellen believes many sports stars stay in the closet for fear of rejection and backlash from fans, and he believes the sports world must take unified action to change the negative attitudes.

The Lord of The Rings star told BBC Radio in an interview, “When it comes to the business of simply being honest about who they are, some of them [sports stars] become little shrinking violets because they’re afraid, probably, of being booed from the terraces, and that must be a horrible experience, and shame on people who do it.

“But it ain’t going to stop someone being a fantastic footballer,” he continued, “because they’re honest about their private lives, is it? I don’t believe so, and the world is changing, and sport, I’m afraid, is very slow to catch up.”

Do you think pro sports is any more or less negative about homosexuality than other celebrity arenas like film or music?

Until now. In a recent interview with Ladies’ Home Journal, the fiercely fit Michaels said she believes “in healthy love,” regardless of the gender of her partner. “If I fall in love with a woman, that’s awesome. If I fall in love with a man, that’s awesome. As long as you fall in love…”

This will be good news for the many lesbians who fell for Michaels even harder after a gorgeous pictorial in Vanity Fair showed the cut beauty looking quite comfortable—and striking— straddling a Harley.

“It’s like organic food,” the fitness guru reasoned. “I only eat healthy food, and I only want healthy love!”
