Topher and I watched the premiere episode of OUTtv’s Tops & Bottoms over the weekend, and we had quite the laugh. Tops & Bottoms is an improv comedy show featuring the best in queer improvisers, from our very own back yard. Each week, host David C. Jones releases a few more Bottoms from “the closet” and they battle to outwit each other and gain a spot in his Top team. Each improviser portrays a different gay stereotype i.e. The Bear, The Bi Hippy Chick, The Club Kid. They perform hilarious improvised sketches and at the end of the match, the homos that don’t bring the haha are sent back to “the improv closet.”

Their premiere episode, filmed before a live studio audience, consisted of The Hairdresser, The Gym Bunny (Landon‘s Adorable Ex), The Diesel Dyke, The Bi-Hippy Chick, The Bear, and of course host David C. Jones. It’s kind of like, “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” hosted by Drew Carey, but gay. It started off a little slow for me as I got used to the characters and the sense of humor of each of the performers, but very quickly I was totally laughing at everything. One game that I really like that they played was Two Lines Only. Basically, it involved three of them, but two of them could only every say two lines. The Hairdresser could only say “Is It Still There?” or “How Horrifying!” and The Gym Bunny could only say “That Feels Good,” or “Let’s Get To It.” The third person, The Bear, was a new contractor and he was seeing if he wanted to hire these two guys to work for him. He could say whatever he wanted, but the other two could only communicate by saying one of their lines. It was hilarious. My favorite character from this episode was The Bear, with The Hairdresser close behind. In the end, The Hairdresser was sent chopping and The Gym Bunny was sent hopping… back to the improv closet by David.
