Hot Pink Shorts: The Making Of
World premiere of a new series on OUTtv - it's a behind-the-scenes look at the filmmaking process, through a queer lens.
Six friends. One summer. Two passions. Curls... and girls. Curl Girls is a six part reality series that follows a group of six Los Angeles surfers over one summer as they split their time between surfing, working, parties, and love. They are a diverse group of gay women: lawyers, business executives, fashion designers, and students, but they all share their passion for surfing.
These six girls live and work in Los Angeles and surf the beaches from Hermosa to Zuma.
Lovers and friends, these young women navigate the ups and downs of their love lives and careers, while spending every free moment in the waves of the Pacific. They surf, hang out together and sometimes fall for each other, but what really keeps them together is their deep friendship and the deep truths of their lives.
From Melissa, the hard-charging, ultra-competitive saleswoman who rocks car sales as hard as she does the waves, to Erin, the opera-loving, white collar lawyer who loves the feel of pumping a 12-guage shotgun, these are all compelling characters with unique personalities. There’s also Gingi the fashion designer who brings a whole new dynamic to the group along with Vanessa , Michelle and Jessica the HR coordinator. Over one hot summer, old relationships break off, new friendships form, and romances ignite as these six incredible women spend two months preparing for a blow-out summer’s-end surf competition/charity party that pits friend against friend, and lover against lover.
Follow Gingi, Michele, Melissa, Erin, Vanessa, and Jessica a group of girls that have two things in common. A love for surfing and other girls. Jessica and Melissa's relationship is on the rocks after cheating. Gingi joins the group and strains the established dynamic. Team tension mounts as the ladies organize a friendly surf competition to help teach surf etiquette.
As the new girl Gingi starts bonding with Vanessa about their shared love of design, but the conversation takes a turn when people find out that Gingi has been with men. Michele asks Rebecca to judge the surfing competition, and she aggress with a catch – the girls have to make it a fundraiser for The Surfrider Foundation. Practice for the competition continues and Michele hosts a backyard barbecue where Jessica and Melissa have a much needed talk.
The girls decide to head to San Diego for training. They want to take advantage of the different waves and help from, a private instructor. Gingi tries to smooth things over with Jessica on the trip. After watching more surfing, Michele is happy with Gingi, and Erin is concerned with Jessica.
Jessica and Erin are working on their relationship (which is not really a relationship) and things seem to be getting better until part of Jessica's past comes into the present. Some of the girls go out for the night and things are good until newcomer Gingi sparks jealousy.
After Jessica gets the hang of surfing Erin decides Hawaii is a good prize for the competition winners. Vanessa has a fashion show and Gingi supports Jessica, causing tension between her and Melissa.
The day of the competition arrives. Who will prevail?? Michelle, Melissa and Gingi are the Blue team competing against Erin, Vanessa and Jessica in Red. Will the girls let past emotions and jitters get in the way or will they just forget it all and surf. The prize: three surfboards and a trip to Hawaii that the losers must pay for.
